about

When I was 17 the vice principle of my high school organized a presentation that was essentially 40 minutes of propaganda geared towards getting my less privileged class mates to sign up for the military. There is a lot of honor in dedicating your life to the safety and protection of others, but it is the responsibility of all of us to make sure that honor isn't being manipulated and used to support selfish gain and greed. That is where this song came from.

lyrics

Jimmy got sent off when he was just 18
fresh out of high school
still full of dreams
wanted to change the world
so he joined the military
got sent home a few month's later
barely enough to burry
so Jimmy may you rest in peace
for you served your time in war
maybe some day we'll figure out
just what you died for

At the funeral the mourning Mother
leaning on the arms of a younger brother
reads a letter with tears in her eyes
that Jimmy sent just before he died
said "Mom, I don't think I can take much more,
now that I've seen the true face of war"
So Jimmy may you rest in peace
for you've served your time in war
maybe someday we'll figure out
just what you died for.

Still the mother reads.
letter clenched in her hands
all Jimmy said when he
killed his first man
said "I thought I did good,
I killed the enemy, but when I looked down
he was even younger than me
and I hated myself
for what I had done
whatever reason that he died for
I hope it was a good one."

So Jimmy may you rest in peace
for you served your time in war
and maybe someday
we'll figure out
just what you died for.

about

The Feral Folk Seattle, Washington

The Feral Folk philosphy is simple - life is the grandest adventure we’ll ever find ourselves on, and in the midst of a world that seems to demand we be anything BUT, good music reminds us of the perfection of just being human.

So thats what we make - raw, human, dreamy folk rock.

Think Fleetwood Mac’s Gold Dust Woman, but for a whole album.
